2014 State CERT Conference

This year's annual State of Florida CERT Conference will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday; September 4, 5 and 6 at the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort/Ocean Walk Village.

This is a great opportunity to meet and train with other CERT members from around the state. Workshops will be available to serve the needs of most members. Room rates are $99 + tax per night (double or single occupancy) with slightly higher rates for triple and quad. This year we are pleased to announce that self parking and in-room internet will be included in the rate. Registration fee is $100.00 which includes your 1year membership in the Florida CERT Association. Conference Registration forms are now available on the following pages, each person will need both the registration form and photo release form. It is very important that the form be downloaded, filled out and either mailed or scanned to Chris (Florida CERT Association President) as soon as possible.

It is also important that room reservations be made at your earliest convenience. Room reservations can be made by calling the hotel direct at 386-254-8200, please make sure you let them know you will be there for the CERT Conference. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

CERT Members Needed for Class Graduation Exercise

On March 11 and 12 from 6:00-9:00pm we will be conducting disaster simulation drills for our new class (we had to split the class in two because we have 30 people in the class). We could use at least 5 CERT members to assist us each night in the exercises.

Please email or call Joanne if you can assist. 954-797-1144 or jjakin@davie-fl.gov

Thanks!

Telephone Call-Out Test Reminder

In the event of real disaster or event requiring the CERT team to activate, we will be notifying you via a mass telephone call out. On May 15 we conducted a test of the telephone call-out notification system as discussed this at several CERT meetings.

If you get the message on your answering machine, you need to call in with the PIN to get the message and then provide a response if requested.

Volunteers Needed for Airport Disaster Exercise

CERT members requested to participate!

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue Division in conjunction with the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport will be conducting a simulated multiple patient exercise on November 7, 8 & 9 from 0900 to 1200. We are in need of participants to play the roles of both patients and family members for this exercise which will help to prepare our agencies in the event of a real incident.

If you have never participated in one of these exercises before you should definitely sign up to participate. You will have an opportunity to see how the professional responders put their triage skills to task and handle numerous “victims” and “family members” on a large scale incident.

Please read the attached letter from Battalion Chief Andrews (MS Word format only, sorry) and email him directly if you are able to participate.
