Learn about the basic training completed by all Davie CERT members.
The EMI offers a large selection of free Independent Study (IS) courses. Members taking the basic CERT training will also complete IS-100, Introduction to Incident Command System. Recommended optional courses include:
- IS-22, An In-depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness (recommended by the President for all citizens)
- IS-200, ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
- IS-700, National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
- IS-800, National Response Framework, An Introduction
The
State Emergency Response Team's training calendar lists many opportunities for advanced training. All members should register with
SERT Trac.
Ham Radio Training
Ham Radio is one of the most proven means of communications in times of disaster. Davie CERT uses Ham Radio as backup communications, and it's also useful for communicating with the Broward EOC. The
Davie/Cooper City Amateur Radio Club offers periodic
licensing classes.
SKYWARN® is a volunteer program with nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service. Classes are available through the National Weather Service Miami/South Florida office. Check the
list of upcoming SKYWARN classes.
